A Full Circle - Exhibition design and art direction for West Bund Art & Design, Shanghai
A Full Circle marked the first solo exhibition of Finnish designer Eero Aarnio in Asia, presented as part of the West Bund Art & Design fair in Shanghai. The exhibition extended across both outdoor and indoor spaces: outside, visitors were greeted by monumental sculptures of Aarnio’s beloved Pony and Kisu, installed on the riverside plaza.
Indoors, the focus shifted to a more personal perspective. I was responsible for the design of both exhibitions, from overall layout to visual details. For the indoor section, I developed and executed a series of framed art prints based on selected materials from Aarnio’s private archives. This involved concept development, image editing, and close collaboration with Helsinki Litho, a fine art printmaking studio specializing in lithography. The result was a limited edition signed prints, each in an edition of 30.
Curated by Luyang Jiang, the exhibition traced Aarnio’s creative evolution from his earliest childhood drawings to his most recent sculptural works—offering a comprehensive and emotionally resonant look at a design legacy still in motion.
